Ilulissat Hostel is the cheapest accommodation possible in Ilulissat. For the first time in many years we have actually freshened things up a bit. The interior has not changed as the beds and walls are still old and winding. The mattresses though, are brand new and the shared bathroom facilities have felt the light touch of a brushstroke. Do not set your mind up for spa-facilities or luxury of any kind. We provide cosy atmosphere and lovely hosts to welcome you to Ilulissat. Here, it is the impressive surroundings, not the accommodation, that should be the aim for your holidays. Ilulissat Hostel provides you with great information about all the tours that World of Greenland operates. We will also gladly take a closer look at a map to discuss your multi day hike and choice of route.
In your room you will find either a bunk bed or two seperate beds. The rooms are small but who needs walls when you’ve got the greenlandic backcountry a few steps away? You will have free linen and a towel for your stay. Your room will not be cleaned while you are here, nor will the linen. You are always welcome to ask for a clean towel though we try to minimize all use of water during summer season. We will clean the room before every arrival, of course.
We serve a light breakfast with two kinds of bread and cold cuts. Juice, coffee and tea for drinks. This is a basic breakfast. We could’nt get any good looking pictures, so do not set your mind up for a huge breakfast buffet as you see in the movies! We might once in a while invite you to join us for a barbecue dinner by the benches in front of the Hostel. You are always welcome to use our charcoals on your own if you brought meat from the local fish- and meat market.
You will find Ilulissat Hostel on a quiet road in the city center. 0,4km from a supermarket, 0,3km from shoppingfacilities, 0,4km from World of Greenlands office and 4,5km away from the airport.
The buildings are 35 years old and were’nt meant to stand this long. It all started back in 1982 when Ilulissat got its airport. The workers needed somewhere to stay so they set up these two buildings. 35 years of changing temperature in the rocks beneath can be seen in the walls and especially in the corridor inside. Just take a look at the pictures! Walking down the hallway feels like standing on a boat in high sea. World of Greenland has owned the Hostel during the last ten years now and as you can see on tripadvisor we get all sorts of feedback, such as: “Great friendly hostel”, “Basic option. A little tired.”, “Dirty and worn-down”, and “Simple but with all the equipment that we need.” And we pretty much agree to all the comments J Luckily we’ve got sunshine on our terrace and in our minds. We hope you do too!
See you in Ilulissat Hostel!
