Standard 3 hut nights
Eqip Sermia, also called “the calving glacier”, is the pivotal point for many excursions in the Disco Bay. The glacier lies about 80 kilometers north of Ilulissat and it calves very often, enabling most visitors to experience both the sound and sight of this fantastic natural scenery.
There are three different types of accommodation in Glacier Lodge Eqi: Comfort hut, Standard hut and Wilderness tents. There is room for up to four persons in the Comfort huts and up to two persons in the Standard huts and Wilderness tents.
“Standard” may sound a little boring. There is, however, nothing standard about the view from these huts. All huts have a splendid view of the calving glacier. All huts are cosy and sparsely furnished just like a log cabin. Bed linen and towels are included. Toilet and showers are found at Cafe Victor.
The transportation to and from Glacier Lodge Eqi is by boat, which an excursion by it self. We sail in comfortable and convenient boats at the excursion to Eqi. The route goes north along the coast passing Bredebugt, the settlement of Oqaatsut and the big fiord system called Pakitsoq, where whales and seals often are seen. Further on through the Ataa Strait, which is surrounded by steep mountains with bird life and waterfalls. Our ice secured boats lie approximately 2 hours in front of the glacier and wait for the ice to calve, while a delicious lunch is served.
At approximately 14:30. the boat will arrive at Port Victor, the ”harbour” at Glacier Lodge Eqi. Only guests spending the night in Glacier Lodge Eqi go ashore, the remaining passengers stay on board. On land the camp guides will lead the way to Glacier Lodge Eqi, situated on the rock approximately 100 m above the water level. Practical information on the area is given in Café Victor and afterwards the guide will show everybody to their huts. The rest of the day could be spent by exploring the area or enjoying the view from the huts.
All stays in Glacier Lodge Eqi includes full board in Café Victor, meaning a rich breakfast and dinner buffet, while for lunch you can choose between buffet lunch or a packed lunch that you can take out on tour. In the cafe it is possible to buy soft drinks, beer, wine and various spirits or sweets. Enjoy the view over the fjord and glacier while enjoying a delicious meal. In Glacier Lodge Eqi we place great emphasis on the use of Greenlandic ingredients.
Also included in the stay at Glacier Lodge Eqi is our Glacier View Hike. Treat yourself on this hike with a fantastic view of the glacier. The hike begins every day at 08:30 and takes about 3-4 hours. You walk past the lagoon and onto the moraine, from where you can look at the fantastic glacier. Coffee and tea will be served on the hike. It is about 8 kilometers walk in mountain terrain. Remember suitable clothing.
On the return day departure from Port Victor is approximately 14:30. The boat trip to Ilulissat goes by the same route. Coffee/tea and cake is served in the late afternoon. Seals and whales are often spotted on the way.
Upon the return to Ilulissat, we arrange transport to World of Greenland, Hotel Arctic, Hotel Icefiord, Hotel Avannaa, Ilulissat Hostel or Hotel Hvide Falk.
The landing is not suited for disabled. Glacier Lodge Eqi is situated on the rock approximately 100 m above the sea level. We recommend that all luggage is carried in a rucksack, since the ascent makes it difficult to bring a suitcase. All guests need to carry their own luggage.
The length of the boat trip to and from the glacier can last between 2 - 5 hours each way. It depends on the boat used the given day. The stop in front of the glacier lasts approximately 2 hours.
There is full board in Cafe Victor during the stay; however this does not include beverages. Also note that brought drinks is not to be enjoyed in the cafe, as well as the huts do not have kitchen facilities.
“4 hours hike to the Delta” This hike will take you to the edge of the Delta with amazing views of the landscape. On the hike there and back you will also get spectacular views of the Eqi glacier. The hike begins at 16:00, is about 4 km long in mountain terrain and takes approx. 3 hours. There will be served coffe and tea. Remember suitable clothing.
