From Igloo Lodge we’ll drive on snowmobile 40 minutes to to Aattartoq - home to the local fishing and hunting community during the winter. It’s a beautiful drive with spectacular vistas on every mountain top we reach. We’ll look out towards ‘Sermeq Avannarleq’: A dead glacier – with the enormous Inland Ice in the background.
Upon arrival we’ll be faced with icebergs in all imaginable formations and shades of blue and shiny white. There is much more to this place than beautiful ice formations, though. We’ll also get a peek into the local fishing and hunting community traditional to Greenland. Local fishermen inhabit simple cabins in the area while their sled dogs are relaxing on the sea ice until they need to work again.
We’ll bring snowshoes and go for a walk between the icebergs stuck in the deep-frozen fiord.
The tour is a unique opportunity to experience a combination of rare Greenlandic nature and culture at the same time.
This tour replaces the snowshoe hike to the viewpoint included in the stay.
The terrain is for advanced snowmobile drivers - therefore only the guide will drive the snowmobile.
