Sustainability policy
Green Environment
Year after year, we have reduced Arctic Hospitality Group's environmental impact with new technology and employee training. In 2013, the hotel became 100 percent CO2-neutral, and in 2014 we inaugurated a solar cell system that supplies approximately 20 percent of the hotel's electricity consumption.
Sustainability policy for Arctic Hospitality Group
Purpose and vision
Arctic Hospitality Group aims to operate a responsible and sustainable business that takes the environment, people and local communities into account. We will continuously work to reduce our environmental impact, promote green initiatives and ensure that our guests have a unique and responsible experience.
We are proud of our commitment to the Green Key program and are committed to complying with all relevant criteria and continuously improving our efforts.
1. Environmental management and compliance with legislation
- Management commitment: Hotel Arctic is committed to integrating sustainable principles into all operational activities and decision-making processes.
- Legislation and standards: We always comply with applicable legislation and international standards within environmental and occupational health and safety legislation as well as Green Key's requirements and guidelines.
- Goals and evaluation: We set annual goals to reduce resource consumption and environmental impact. These goals are evaluated and updated on an ongoing basis based on our progress.
2. Energy and water consumption
- Energy efficiency: We continuously work to reduce energy consumption through investment in energy-efficient technologies, regular maintenance and optimization of the operation of our facilities (e.g. ventilation, heating, lighting).
- Renewable energy: Where possible, we use renewable energy sources and encourage our suppliers to do the same.
- Water conservation: We monitor and minimize our water consumption by installing water-saving equipment, operating an efficient laundry facility, and continually repairing any leaks.
3. Waste management and resource management
- Waste sorting: We strive to minimize waste at the source through proper sorting, recycling and reuse.
- Organic waste: Food waste is handled responsibly, including through collaboration with local partners who can use it for compost or other recovery, if possible.
- Plastic and disposable products: We reduce the use of single-use plastics by offering alternatives such as reusable or biodegradable products.
4. Purchasing and suppliers
- Sustainable procurement: We prioritize goods, services and raw materials with eco-labels (e.g. EU Flower, FSC, MSC) as well as local and organic products to strengthen both environmental responsibility and local communities.
- Ethical and social considerations: We work with suppliers who comply with social, ethical and environmental standards, and we encourage them to continuously improve their sustainability efforts.
- Transport: We try to minimize transport-related CO₂ emissions by choosing suppliers in the local area and planning logistics with a focus on the fewest deliveries possible.
5. Local community and culture
- Respect for local culture: Hotel Arctic cherishes the local cultural heritage and ensures that our activities are in line with the traditions and values of the local community.
- Collaboration with the local community: We support local initiatives, associations and projects that promote sustainability, social well-being and cultural development.
- Local ingredients: By using local ingredients in our restaurants, we contribute to strengthening local agriculture, fishing and other industries in the local area.
6. Employee engagement and training
- Education and training: We ensure that all employees are familiar with the hotel's environmental and sustainability goals, and that they are continuously trained in relevant topics (e.g. energy saving, waste sorting, hygiene).
- Commitment and responsibility: Employees are encouraged to come up with ideas and take responsibility for improvements in their daily work. We recognize and reward green initiatives internally.
- Working environment: A safe and healthy working environment is a natural part of our responsibility. We regularly monitor employee satisfaction, well-being and working environment standards.
7. Guest experience and communication
- Information and guidance: We inform guests about our sustainability efforts and advise them on how they can contribute during their stay (e.g. changing towels as needed, turning off lights and electrical appliances).
- Green Key visibility: We highlight the hotel's Green Key certification in all relevant channels to promote transparency and involve guests in our environmental efforts.
- Feedback: We encourage our guests to provide feedback on our sustainability initiatives and take their suggestions seriously in our ongoing improvement efforts.
8. Continuous improvement and reporting
- Annual reporting: We prepare an annual environmental and sustainability report, where we take stock of goals, efforts and results. The report is shared with employees, guests and external stakeholders.
- Continued development: Through open collaboration with Green Key and other certification bodies, we ensure that our policies and practices are updated and improved in line with new knowledge and technologies.
Hotel Arctic's sustainability policy is an expression of our wholehearted commitment to responsible and environmentally friendly operations. Our goal is to provide guests with a unique and green experience, where respect for nature and people is the foundation. Through partnership with Green Key, our suppliers, employees and local communities, we work purposefully to continuously improve our environmental efforts for the benefit of everyone.
