Dog sledding
* Assumes 1 night in Igloo Lodge
From Igloo Lodge we offer one of the area's absolute coolest winter trips - a dog sledding trip from Igloo Lodge.
Here you get away from the worst of the “traffic” and get a true experience of total silence. The route goes from Igloo Lodge to a fantastic viewpoint, which we often have all to ourselves.
The dogs are extra residents out on the lake in front of the lodge.
The tour is operated by Dogsled Academy – a small local company, owned by Jørgen Kristensen from Ilulissat. You can look forward to meeting Jørgen, who is actually a bit of a superstar here in Greenland. He has won the national dog sled race 5 times in a row. What we love about Jørgen is his desire to tell exciting stories from his life, and his gentle approach to his dogs. Jørgen’s dogs are very welcoming, and we love having them as permanent residents at our lodge throughout the winter.
Note
All participants must be at least 8 years old.
The trip lasts approximately 1.5 hours, but this can vary from day to day, and depends on the weather, the amount of snow, and the dogs' daily fitness.
If you have a bad back or neck, you should not choose this tour.

Walking amongst Giants
* Assumes 1 night in Igloo Lodge
This excursion is an amazing snowmobile tour, where we drive even further into the backcountry of Ilulissat. The trip starts from Igloo Lodge, from where we drive to Aattartoq – the local hunting and fishing community’s base throughout the winter. It is a beautiful drive, with several unique and spectacular views that meet us at each mountain peak. We repeatedly have views of “the dead glacier” and the enormous ice sheet behind.
We arrive at 'Aattartoq' after about a 45-minute drive. Here we will be greeted by the frozen fjord Sikuiuitsoq. Out of the meter-thick sea ice, frozen icebergs rise in distinctive formations and shades of blue and shiny white. However, there is more than ice out here – in the cabins at the fishing grounds, local fishermen and trappers find shelter from the darkness and cold, and nearby the sled dogs rest on the sea ice.
Upon arrival, we park our scooters, giving ourselves plenty of time to move out onto the sea ice among the icebergs – Greenland's giants.
We also get an insight into life as a trapper/fisherman in modern-day Greenland before we drive back to Iglo Lodge.
Note
Participants share a snowmobile in pairs. Guests must be at least 12 years old. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Snowmobile drivers must be able to show a valid driver's license. Warm clothing and boots are included, but you must bring your own warm gloves and hat.

Snowshoe UNESCO
* Assumes 1 night in Igloo Lodge
We go on this wonderful snowshoe hike from Igloo Lodge every day.
After a short introduction, the tour goes across the frozen lake in front of the lodge, and up through a small pass where we cross the border to UNESCO. The pass opens out onto the Icefjord, and here is the most beautiful viewpoint, where we take a coffee break.
We have plenty of time to enjoy the view, take pictures, and maybe spot a grouse or two before we head back towards Igloo Lodge.
Note
Everyone can participate in this tour.
