The winter season in Disko Bay

Winter in Disko Bay is raw, silent and utterly magical. The landscape is covered in snow, the sea is filled with ice, and the darkness is illuminated by the dance of the Northern Lights in the sky. This is where you really feel the Arctic – with crackling frost, dog sleds on the horizon and a calm that can only be found far north.


Based in Ilulissat, we invite you to experience the highlights of winter – from the comfort of Hotel Arctic and the beautiful Northern Lights Cabins to unique nature experiences with overnight stays in the Igloo Lodge.


This weekly program is a suggestion for how to put together a trip during the winter season (January 21 – April 15 from 2027) that makes the most of the area. It combines Arctic winter activities, northern lights experiences and local cultural encounters with unique overnight stays in the middle of nature.


The program is intended as inspiration, and the stay can of course be adapted to your wishes and interests. Along the way, it is possible to add more experiences – for example, dog sledding, snowmobiling, northern lights hunting, visits to the Isfjorden, guided city tours or sailing trips among icebergs (depending on ice conditions).

Suggestions for a week's trip in Greenland

Day 1 - Arrival in Ilulissat

 Accommodation: Hotel Arctic


  • Arrival in Ilulissat
  • Check-in and relaxation after the trip
  • Possibility to dine at Restaurant Ulo, where former Michelin chef Habi Khaliqdad has prepared 16 servings of Greenlandic ingredients for fine dining. Must be booked at least 24 hours before seating.


Day 2 - Ilulissat and winter fun

Accommodation: Hotel Arctic

Day 3 - Towards Igloo Lodge

  • Dinner at the camp
  • Northern Lights far from city lights



Day 4 - Arctic winter life

Day 5 - Northern Lights Cabins

Accommodation: Hotel Arctic/Northern Lights Cabins


  • Transportation back to Ilulissat
  • Accommodation in the hotel's exclusive northern lights cabins


These cabins are located on the mountain with panoramic views of Disko Bay and are designed to provide optimal conditions for experiencing the Northern Lights directly from bed.


Evening:

  • Private Northern Lights experience from the cabin




Day 6 - Winter activities and northern lights from the front row

Accommodation: Hotel Arctic/Northern Lights Cabins

  • Relaxation in spectacular surroundings

Evening:

  • Another evening with the northern lights – directly through the large panoramic windows
  • The cabins are equipped with heated glass panels so that snow and ice do not block the view of the sky.
