About Igloo Lodge

How to get to Igloo Lodge

Igloo Lodge is located about 15 kilometers inland from Ilulissat. That may not sound like much. But with the pristine and snow-covered terrain where even your GPS would give up, the trip there is an adventure in itself.

The trip to Igloo Lodge takes place by snowmobile. Only 5 minutes after departure we cross the border to UNESCO. From here we navigate our way around a landscape that is as if taken straight out of a postcard idyll. Through valleys with steep mountains, over crystal clear, frozen lakes and past local fishermen with their sled dogs, on their way out to secure the day's catch.

If you're already imagining a cozy sled ride, think again. The snow machine is designed for rough terrain – and it shows! You'll be shaken around, and sit on slopes that make you feel like you're trapped in a Tivoli amusement park at snail's pace. Like a roller coaster ride… only in slow motion.

  • Departure from Ilulissat at 09:30.
  • Meeting point is at World of Greenland's office in the city center.
  • Departure from Igloo Lodge at 11:00 AM.
  • The transport takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes each way.

Stay overnight in a traditional Igloo

Igloo Lodge is World of Greenland's first winter lodge and is now part of the series of unique lodges. Here you will have an experience you will not soon forget. Imagine sleeping in the middle of the sparkling Greenlandic winter mountains, where the igloos are built of snow, as the Inuit have practiced for millennia. The word Igloo comes from the Greenlandic “Illu”, which means house.

Igloo Lodge is not a fancy ice hotel – it is the real deal. It is for those who want to experience total silence, magnificent surroundings and the dancing northern lights in cozy surroundings. For those who dare to go off the beaten track. For those who want a little more.

If you haven't experienced Greenland during the winter months, a visit to Igloo Lodge is something you shouldn't miss. The lodge is located at Nalluarsuk, 15 km inland from Ilulissat – on the edge of the UNESCO site Ilulissat Icefjord.

From the large log cabin that forms the setting for your stay, you can watch the traffic of dog sleds and snowmobiles whizzing past on the large, frozen lake. Here is ample opportunity to unplug, forget about everyday life and simply enjoy the present.
