Restaurant Egede
Restaurant in Ilimanaq
Since opening in 2017, Restaurant Egede in Ilimanaq Lodge has served food made from Greenlandic ingredients prepared with a stylish twist.
The food in Restaurant Egede is based on what we can find around us in Ilimanaq, spiced with a good dose of creativity. The concept does not aim for gastronomic prestige, but rather to strengthen the connection to the surrounding nature and culture in a relaxed and homely atmosphere.
Lunch is a service that varies during the season, and in the evening guests can enjoy a 3-course menu.
Lunch sandwiches can be purchased on site and enjoyed on the rocks in nature if you wish.

In historic surroundings
Welcome to Restaurant Egede – a place where history and the present meet in beautiful surroundings. The restaurant is located in an old colonial manager's house from 1741, one of Greenland's oldest buildings, which is now fully protected. The house was originally built by Paul Egede, son of the famous missionary Hans Egede, who was the first missionary to come to Greenland. When you step inside, you can feel the rustle of history in every corner.
Between 2014 and 2017, the house was carefully renovated by Realdania By & Byg, who subsequently received the renowned Europa Nostra Award for their work. They have truly managed to preserve the soul and original character of the house by using the same materials and colors that the house was built with almost 300 years ago.
Here you will find original elements from the 18th century – old planks, canvas walls and even a sail from a whaling ship, testifying to the house’s rich history. The tarred facade, which still emits a characteristic scent, helps create an atmosphere that makes your visit a very special experience.
We look forward to welcoming you to this unique setting, where you can enjoy both history and gastronomy in a harmonious and cozy atmosphere.
